Physical Therapy clinicians throughout the country are working with their state boards to gain acceptance of this technique.
Currently Virginia has approved physical therapists to perform Trigger Point Dry Needling technique. It is required that therapists receive 54 contact hours of training. Level 1 and Level 2 is the equivalent of 54 hours. We have received some conflicting advice from the board regarding the Kinetacore requirement of needling 200 sessions prior to taking level 2. We were originally told the 54 hours must be completed before needling patients, but recently received a letter form the Virginia board stating this is only a recommendation not a requirement. Due to the mixed response we have received we are offering therapists the opportunity to take Level 1 again at a discounted rate to get the 54 hours. See below for the letters of reference.

Quoted as: "After review with the executive Director, Lisa Hahn, on the regulation and Guidance Document 112-9 the following response was received. The regulations do not address specific treatments or scope of practice. The guidance document 112-9 was created on 2/15/2008 to address the issue of Dry Needling. it is a reference document and not part of the regulations. When created, the course that involves practice between level and level 2 was not presented to the board.
The Guidance Document was not created to have you take a Level 1 class twice to meet the 54 hours of training, but to make sure you had a minimum of of training before practicing the specific treatment. Any requirement of a course should be completed in order to gain competency, not repeated to meet a minimum hour requirement as this was not the intent of the Guidance Document.

There are two products, one in which you can get a new manual or one in which you will need to bring your manual.
