Myofascial Decompression Technique (MFD)

Myofascial Decompression Techniques - Increase efficiency of motion through fascial flexibility and neuromuscular re-education.

Acupuncture CEU's pending.

Enrollment Fee: $275
Includes Lunch & a Deluxe 24 piece pneumatic Cup Set to take home.
Instructor: Christopher DaPrato, DPT, MS, CSCS, PES
COURSE OVERVIEW:

It is our goal as clinicians to restore function to our patients as timely as possible. The techniques in this course will take the “sore thumb” out of integrating a strong manual based approach to musculoskeletal disorders with unbelievable results! The majority of manual therapy we utilize is very compressive in nature: STM, MFR, joint mobs. Myofascial Decompression is one of the few techniques that works in the decompression of adhesions, which often makes more physiologic sense. The MFD course will integrate Eastern medicine tools with Western evidence based physiologic principles.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  • Integrate MFD into your manual practice to expedite results, increase efficiency, and drastically improve outcomes.

  • Review literature on properties skin/fascia and their interface with the musculoskeletal and neurologic systems.

  • Understand trigger points, common referred pain patterns, fascial lines, Janda’s postural syndromes, and efficient motion.

  • Utilize manual applications of MFD to treat orthopedic issues, sports injuries, and P/O adhesions; documentation and billing.

  • Implement basic neuromuscular re-education principles after using MFD to restore optimal function.

COURSE AGENDA:

  • 8:30-9:15 Intro. Anatomy, histology, & physiology review. Cup history; East/West perspectives, guasha.

  • 9:15-10:00 Literature review. Properties of connective tissue, trigger point theory, fascial lines, and postural syndromes; treatment with MDT.

  • Break

  • 10:10-11:00 Technique basics, operation and application of MFD troubleshooting, precautions & contraindications.

  • Demo. Labs.

  • 11:00-12:00 Break outs: ITB, traps and levator scap.

  • 12:30-1:15 Lunch

  • 1:15-2:00 Treating T/L fascia, P/O surgical patients, scar mobilization, chronic shoulder impairments

  • 2:00-3:15 Treating PFPS, P/O ACL, knee & elbow flexion contractures. Other impairments. Break

  • 3:20-4:30 Clinical case studies, appropriate athlete care, future research

* Please wear proper attire for lab. Confirmation for the course and other correspondence will be given via e-mail

Who can take the course: PT, ATC, PTA, OT, PA, MD, DO, NP, L.A.c

Pre-Requisites: None required.

DaPrato has actively been practicing in sports medicine for the last eleven years, and focuses on incorporating high level manual therapy with functional movement patterns and neuromuscular re-education. He has recently been excited to expand treatment paradigms to fellow PTs, ATCs, DOs, and MDs on Myofascial Decompression Techniques. Over the last five years he has developed these techniques to maximize results and improve the efficiency of elite athletes, weekend warriors, and general orthopedics alike. He received his BS in Human Physiology, his Masters in Physical Therapy from Long Beach, and his Doctorate from Temple University. His approach to patient care also encompasses advanced level strength and conditioning, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, and a Performance Enhancement Specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
